THURSDAY 10/18: Thelma Peterson Watercolor Classes Begin

Beloved for evoking the essence of the Eastern Shore through her paintings, Thelma J. Peterson is bringing her two decades of skills to Eastern Shore’s Own Art Center with both a beginning and intermediate Watercolor Class.

Each a six week course, the beginner’s class starts Thursday, October 18, from 10 a.m. to noon. This class will cover all aspects of getting started with watercolors from pigments, brushes, watercolor papers, composition and perspective to techniques of handling the watercolor medium.

The intermediate class starts Saturday, October 20, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. It is designed to broaden skills and techniques in handling the watercolor medium and build a foundation of composition, perspective and a variety of techniques to handle a wider and more in-depth range of subjects.

Peterson’s work is found in galleries nationwide, as well as in private and corporate collections. Her paintings have been selected and reproduced as limited edition prints with The Nature Conservancy, The Conservation Fund, and Ducks Unlimited. She has earned the prestigious Palette and Chisel award and was chosen as Artist of the Year by the Eastern Shore Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. She is currently Artist in Residence at the Eastern Shore Community College.

“I am constantly amazed and humbled by the natural world around me,” said Peterson. “Its beauty and power constantly provoke and instill a truth and purity that anchors me, and sets my roots deep.”

Cost for each 6-week class is $180, and pre-registration is required. Bring your supplies; a list is available at ESO. You can register online at www.esoartscenter.org. For more information, call 757-442-3226 or email [email protected].
