ESO Arts Center offers a “Shore” cure for the winter doldrums with nearly 40 classes and workshops for youth and adults taught by experts, many of whom have been with ESO for decades.

New offerings include “Photography Workshop 101: Making the Most of your Camera and Images,” and “Beginning Russian Language and Culture,” which explores this fascinating country famous for its endless landscapes, vodka, caviar and Dr. Zhivago.

And for children the new ESO Youth Chorale begins January 22.

Back by popular demand is “Tai Chi for Health,” low impact movements geared for adults of all ages, that began January 7. It joins six different varieties of fitness classes, providing something for anyone wanting to keep their New Year’s resolution.

All ages can learn effective self-defense techniques while improving overall physical conditioning and mental focus through karate with Robert Buckner, a Third Degree Black Belt who has been teaching his popular class for over 20 years.

Children who saw the recent Nutcracker Ballet might be eager to sign up for ballet with Dana Floyd-Sutter. New students should call ESO for information and rates.

Adult Tap dancing is also offered from beginners to advanced levels.

Painting classes abound, with a six-week oil painting class and a range of interesting watercolor workshops. Two drawing classes are also offered, one for youth, “Basic Sketch and Portrait Artist Workshop,” and “Introduction to Drawing” for adults.

Popular pottery classes return with “Pottery for Kids” and “Adult Beginning Pottery.”

“ESO Writers’ Workshop” with prolific authors Lenore Hart and David Poyer runs 10 weeks beginning Jan 22.

Individual music lessons for countless instruments, even voice lessons, are ongoing with ESO’s panel of talented instructors.

Pre-registration for classes is required. For prices and more info, see the 2013 Winter and Spring Class Schedule www.esoartscenter.org or call ESO at 757-442-3226.
