TUESDAY 7/30: Old School Cape Charles Meeting Open to Public

The group known as Old School Cape Charles will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, at First Baptist Church, 549 Madison Avenue (location changed from St. Stephen’s AME Church). The public is encouraged to attend.

Participants in the Old School meeting will review plans for further activities in town. Reports will be made on communications with the Department of Historic Resources and political representatives and an update on the lawsuits filed against the town and a developer.

Old School Cape Charles was established to save the old school in Central Park for community use. The organization offered to lease the building from the Town. When that offer was not accepted, the group offered to buy the building outright for $10,000.

Town Council declined to consider the offers and instead gave a developer the building, basketball court, and parking for the park and playground, along with $41,000 to apply toward utility hookups. Old School Cape Charles has appealed the giveaway and related zoning to the State Supreme Court.
