Variety of ESO Classes Starting Week of September 15

The onset of a new season is a fitting time to stretch your creative muscles with  Eastern Shore’s Own Arts Center’s  complete schedule of art classes for all ages and artistic bents. Discover the power of the arts even if you’ve never picked up a sketch pad or only dreamed of trying your hand at acting. The following classes, unless otherwise noted, begin the week of September 15.  Pre-registration is required.

Beginning Tap on Thursdays from 4:15-5 p.m. resumed Sept 12 and is ongoing for ages 6 to adults. A joyful dance style taught by Lisa Brasch the class covers basic tap steps and combinations with toe tapping choreography. Cost is $32 per month.

ESO Writers’ Workshop on Tuesdays, 7- 9:30 p.m. starts Sept. 17 for adults and young adults 16 and up. A rare Shore opportunity this community writing workshop for aspiring and published writers, both fiction and non-fiction, is taught by two award-winning and much published authors Lenore Hart and David Poyer who share their combined 40 years’ experience. Cost is $220 for 10 weeks.

Poetry & Playwriting 1 on Tuesdays, 7-9:30 p.m. starts Sept. 17. Write poetry, plays or both. Features students’ works, critiquing and lectures with instructor Robert P. Arthur a professional editor of a national magazine and a traditional poetry book company, as well as the acquisition editor for an online poetry book company. Cost is $220 for 10 weeks.

Acting 1 on Mondays, 7-9:30 p.m. starts Sept. 16 with Robert P. Arthur instructing.    Student actors are taught basics of the American Method Acting from beginning to performance with an exciting opportunity to participate in productions with The Edge Theater at ESO. Cost is $220 for 10 weeks.

Basic Drawing: The Foundation for the Visual Arts on Tuesdays, 3:30-5:30 p.m. starts Sept. 17 with renowned artist Anne Holland. Class covers the basics of drawing from observations of nature to drawing from imagination. Topics will include line, shape, value, texture, & perspective. Supply list is at ESO. Cost is $180 for 6 weeks.

Drawing & Pencil Sketching for ages 10 to adults on Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m. starts Sept. 18 with talented artist Stevon Sample. Interactive and fun with basic sketching and drawing exercises for artists who’d like to brush up or their sharpen skills with possible cartooning/character creation if there is interest. Supply list is at ESO. Cost is     $75 for 5 weeks.

Pottery for Kids on Mondays, 4-5:30 p.m. starts Sept. 16 with popular instructor and artisan Elizabeth Hunt. Class teaches hand sculpting and wheel techniques for the creation of unique pottery or sculpture for beginning/intermediate young ceramists.     Stock materials supplied. $130 + $10 firing fee for 6 weeks.

Adult Beginning -Intermediate Pottery on Mondays, 6-8 p.m. starts Sept. 16 with popular instructor and artisan Elizabeth Hunt 16. It’s an introduction to wheel and hand building techniques for the creation of unique pottery or sculpture with independent study available. Stock materials supplied. $210 + $20 firing fee for 8 weeks.

Ongoing classes also available at ESO: Karate with Robert Buckner, Individual Music Lessons on a wide range of musical instruments with professional musician as well as Voice Lessons and Youth Chorale. Also Oil Painting with Carole Peirson, a variety of Fitness Classes with Barbara Hall and Ballet for all ages with Dana Floyd-Sutter.
