SUNDAY 11/17: Beethoven Sonatas at Palace Theatre

Join Arts Enter Cape Charles in November for a classical music concert series featuring ten sonatas of Beethoven for piano and violin, presented by Dora Mullins and Stefan Dulcie. Each concert will take place at the Historic Palace Theatre, 305 Mason Avenue, Cape Charles.

Tickets are $15 adults and $5 students per concert, and may be purchased at the box office immediately before each concert.

The first ten years of Beethoven’s composing were during his student days under the greatest Viennese masters, Josef Hayden, W.A. Mozart, and Carl von Dittersdorf. His music covers three periods of growth, common to many composers of that period. The first was “Imitation,” during which he wrote in the classical styles of his teachers. The second period, “Externalization,” reflects the tragedies of lost loves and his love of nature and country. The third period, “Reflection,” in his later years, marred by deafness and illness, is marked by stretching beyond the boundaries of composition of his day, romanticism, and acceptance of his fate. The ten sonatas for violin and piano reflect these periods and remain today as supreme examples of a great master’s life.
