A cast of nearly 100 tells the enchanted story that entwines a young girl’s dream of a prince and a battle with the Mouse King, a guiding angel and an amazing visit through the Land of Snow to the Kingdom of Sweets. Beautiful choreography and music pairs with elaborate costumes and sets in an event both adults and children adore.

Each year ESO School of Dance’s production takes on a new personality with roles and choreography adapted to enhance each dancer’s uniqueness under the masterful hand of Dance Director and Choreographer Dana Floyd-Sutter. It is also a time for high school seniors to shine during their last ESO Christmas performance.

This year will be a treat as there are four senior dancers, each of which have been with ESO for at least 10 years said Floyd-Sutter.

“All four have something wonderful to add to the ballet,“ she said. “Ellie Saunders is the athlete giving power to her jumps & turns. Grace Howie has a beautiful elegance and wonderful lines. Shelby Rohde is the classic ballerina with delicate jumps and soft lines. Zuri Gagnon is the spitfire with her contagious smile & a true zest and sparkle for all things on stage –- she loves jumping!”

The Nutcracker’s central character, a girl named Clara, is the dream role for many young ballerinas. This year 11-year-old Annie Schreiber plays Clara. Floyd-Sutter refers to Schreiber as “naturally gifted both mentally and physically” for the coveted role.

“Annie is a dynamo of a dancer yet she has the face of a little girl,” she said. “She brings a magical quality to the role.”
