FRIDAY/SATURDAY: ‘Love Story in Song’ at ESO Arts Center

The innovative Edge Theater at ESO is sharing the love with its production “Love Story in Song” on Friday, February 28, and Saturday, March 1, at 8 p.m. at ESO Arts Center in Belle Haven.

ESO is located at 15293 King Street in Belle Haven. Doors open at 7:30, and the show begins 8 p.m. Admission is $10. Wine, beer, and refreshments will be sold.

Described as a sensual, edgy, even silly musical review featuring love songs through the ages, it highlights a clever mix of genres from Gershwin to Gordon Lightfoot. The narrated, lyrical journey travels from “Greensleeves” an ancient folk ballad, to Cole Porter’s “In the Still of the Night” including songs still popular today.

This is the third production for the avant-garde Edge Theater at ESO. The theater company has quickly gained a following with its innovative and diverse programs held in an intimate 60-seat venue. Performances are the stars of the minimalistic staging also know as Black Box Theater.

“Love Story in Song” is the love child of award-winning playwright and poet Robert Authur, who scripted and directs the production. Authur is also the founder of the Edge Theater.

The production showcases the Shore’s most recognizable singers, actors, and musicians with several debuts. Singers are Jo Ann Molera, Marilyn Kellam, Laura Trala, Dorie Arthur, Richard Williams and Ken Sutton. Pianist Stefan Dulcie, who also is co-musical director with Richard Williams, accompanies them. Directorial assist is provided by Lenore Hart.

“If there is anything the songs have in common, other than love and melody, is outstanding, literary lyrics,” said Authur. “Even the low-brow stuff here is unusually high.”

Seating is limited. Call 757-442-3226 for reservations or online tickets at www.esoartscenter.org
