TUESDAY 4/15: Public Invited to Annual Conservation Meeting of CBES and Shorekeeper

The public is invited to attend the annual meeting of Citizens for a Better Eastern Shore 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Nandua High School auditorium in Onley. The Virginia Eastern Shorekeeper will co-host the event.

Newly appointed Shorekeeper Jay Ford will address his first annual meeting and discuss the program he is developing with the Shorekeeper board to broaden tidal water quality protections on the Shore.

CBES president Arthur Upshur will describe plans for new fulltime staff leadership at CBES. CBES will conduct a brief meeting of its general membership before the program, when directors for the 2014–2016 term will be elected.

The evening’s program will introduce Jill Bieri, the new Director of the Virginia Coast Reserve. Bieri began work at VCR in February.

The program will also feature a presentation by Bruch Underwood of the NASA Wallops Flight Facility discussing NASA’s activities on the Shore, and its impact on the local community, economy, and environment. NASA has recently been working with VCR to improve protection of Wallops Island and the surrounding area. Bieri and Underwood will accept questions from the audience.

A reception following the meeting will feature homemade desserts, coffee and soft drinks.
