John Bunevich, Retired Star-Ledger Editor

Cape Charles resident John James Bunevich, III, 67, passed away Friday, May 9, at his residence. The cause of death was a ruptured aortic aneurysm. A private family inurnment will be held at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair, NJ.

Mr. Bunevich was born January 2, 1947, in Clifton, NJ, the son of the late John Bunevich, Jr., and the late Ann Kapolka Bunevich. After serving as managing editor of the Nutley Sun in Nutley, NJ, he spent the remainder of his professional life as an editor for the Star Ledger of Newark, NJ, before retiring to Virginia in 2001.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Bunevich, wife of James Forrester, of Easton, CT, and Jamie LoRocco of Bloomfield, NJ; a sister, Rose Seeback of Zillas, NJ; and a granddaughter, Mara Norris of Bloomfield, NJ. He was previously married in 1966 to Nancy LoRocco Bunevich, the mother of his two daughters. He is also survived by his long-time girlfriend, Carol McCarthy, with whom he shared a home for more than 20 years, and Zoe, his beloved dog and companion. John enjoyed reading, history (particularly World War II), gambling, and writing, and was a die-hard fan of the New York Giants football team.

    Sorry to hear about his passing. I grew up reading the Nutley Sun and Star Ledger and would have enjoyed talking to him about his experiences in Essex County.
