Guppie Challenge Kids Tournament Seeks Sponsors

If you have driven through Cape Charles lately you can see that the New Roots Youth Garden is blooming in full swing for this year’s growing season. Our mission at the NRYG is to cultivate healthy children, families, and our community through outdoor, experiential learning, and the profound act of connecting people with food from seed to table.

The NRYG is committed to providing opportunities for local youth to develop personal growth, environmental stewardship, healthy lifestyles, social skills and awareness, community spirit, business proficiency, and the joy and satisfaction of meaningful work. We realize these goals by growing, eating, and sharing our harvest in creative, fun, and healthy ways. NRYG strives to teach sustainable living and one way we do that is through our upcoming July 4th Guppie Challenge Kids Fishing Tournament. Our Guppie Challenge strives to help kids understand sustainable fishing in that what they put on the ground has an impact on our fishing waters.

We are now in the planning stages to make the 2014 Guppie Challenge bigger than ever. Last year we had a record breaking number of kids who participated– 62 kids – amazing! We are hoping for even more kids this year. With that said, we will need your support more than ever to make our event a huge success. Contributions like yours support the event to purchase supplies and take home items for the kids so we can really get them hooked on fishing.

All proceeds from the event benefit the New Roots Youth Garden, a non-profit 501c (3) organization here in Cape Charles. This is an excellent opportunity for businesses to gain exposure within the community, and all contributions are tax deductible. For information about the event or becoming an event sponsor or volunteer, please call Tournament Director Claudette Twichell at 757-408-0023 or email [email protected].
