WEDNESDAY 9/10: Hoop Houses and High Tunnels for Gardeners

The Eastern Shore Resource Conservation and Development Council will present a free workshop on Hoop Houses and High Tunnels 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, at Quail Cove Farms in Machipongo. Both commercial and home gardeners are welcome and can learn how hoop houses can extend the growing season.

The program will begin at 9 a.m. with a Field Meeting at Quail Cove Farms, 12435 Machipongo Lane, Machipongo,  just east of Route 13. The program will continue with a classroom workshop and complimentary luncheon at the nearby Barrier Islands Center.

Participants will learn basics of high tunnel systems such as advantages and disadvantages, site preparation, set-up, pricing, types of crops that can be grown, and financial assistance programs available.
