Be it fate or destiny, one of the warmest, kindest and dearest persons became part of our lives in our "already formed" adult years. Stepmother and mother-in-law, by nature, usually have a negative or bittersweet association in society's perception. The ultimate exception to that thought was our Mom (Flo). Mom was the "aged with wisdom, poster child" for the absolutely perfect Mom AKA step/in-law. Mom was loving and caring in a most sincere way. Always a smile and embracing hug that reached the "child in your heart." Never interfering, yet posed all questions that showed genuine interest in her family. As my stepmother, we had something that no one else in the family shared: Big John. After the passing of Big John Sr., Mom loved and looked forward to our random "stop bys" for a "Big John (Jr.) hug" which she so missed. It was very challenging to give a lot of hugs as Mom was the world traveler and ultimate "church lady" involved with everything from knitting to caning. When Mom experienced or detected a "BIG" blunder, it was the ultimate motherly advice in a very stern voice: "You know, they can really make you sooo mad. Stage right: enters sweet gentle vice: but their BIGGG hearts always make it forgotten ... would you like a cup of tea?" Ending with a "sweet thought": the Christmas cake! ... and yes Mom shared the recipe! We are sure it will be as angelic served in heaven next Christmas as it was on all of our Christmas tables. Love ya BIG Mom!
