Glad to hear of the potential expansion. Hope they will consider acquiring some comfortable chairs and tables. The picnic tables are great for the younger generations, but the mid-sixty and older crowd, like myself, has too much joint and hip pain to sit comfortably for long at a picnic table with an attached bench we have to climb into. Guests of the Rittenhouse Motor Lodge have enjoyed the Shanty this past season. This concept has been needed for a very long time — hurry, and reopen in the Spring. We are all waiting “out on the highway” — Congratulations!

I agree — it would be nice to still have the outside deck — shaded by a roof but still open. I think it adds a lot of appeal and a great option for those of us who like being outside in the shade in warm weather. I have been to some restaurants where they have roll up transparent curtains that can be put down when it is cold or stormy. The harborside in west Ocean City has this type of arrangement.

The last few times any of my ‘away’ family has come to visit, we’ve gone to the Shanty to enjoy casual, outdoor dining on the picnic tables provided. It’s really fun to munch on their good food while basking in the refreshing open air. I certainly hope, with it’s planned expansion, the Shanty leaves at least a few open-air tables on the water side, for those of us who do not enjoy being inside on a nice summer afternoon! And for those of us who have noisy grandchildren…in the open air, they can exclaim loudly about passing seabirds, or get up to stretch their small legs on the docks surrounded by boats bobbing in ther slips, for example, while not bothering other diners, as they would if the entire place were enclosed. The open air dining sections of the Shanty are ideal for children!
