The results of this election should be confirmed after counting the provisional ballots. So what is the latest? There’s been nothing from the usual sources, online or in print. Why the silence for such a consequential race that will determine who controls the Virginia Senate?

The State Board of Elections voted Friday to certify Lynwood Lewis as the winner by nine votes. According to the Washington Post, Wayne Coleman has made clear he will request a recount. –EDITOR

It’s about time the people are starting to take notice in their community, and that is a good sign, we should hold our elected officials accountable — not because we like them but that they display the effort to think of the people and not about their next election. Northampton is very poor because of the short-sightedness of our leaders that bury their heads in the sand when it comes to the lives of our people that want a better life for themselves and their children. No jobs, no affordable housing, school children failing in school I can go on, on, on. [. . .] I’m a white, second generation Italian, fought for my country at 17 in WW2, a Cub Scout Master, Little League President, President of the Northampton-Accomack housing rehabilitation, President AARP, Treasurer of St. Charles Church, paralegal attorney in Citibank, Chairman and Treasurer of the Northampton County Democratic Party, teach our children “pro bono,” performed music to raise revenue for various institutions — the list goes on and I can’t even get elected as Dog Catcher. I’m from Brooklyn, N.Y.C. and I tell it the way I see it.

Lynwood Lewis has been a strong advocate for progress on the Eastern Shore. Eat your sour grapes Republicans, the Democrats will now get their turn.

As far as losing your home area both Lewis AND Coleman lost their home areas which appears to be more a function of traditional voting patterns in those communities (Accomack tends to vote Republican, Norfolk tends to vote Democratic).

Oh sure, McAuliffe will have the Eastern Shore BOOMING! That is after he has spent so much of his time in Washington and McLean with his buddies there. [. . .] As for Lynwood Lewis, it’s pretty telling that he didn’t carry his own home area — seems the people who knew him best didn’t vote for him. Oh well, I pray the Shore will be booming, so I might be able to finally sell these properties for anything close to what I paid for them.

Update: the State Board of Elections web site shows Lewis with a 10 vote lead. That’s right, 10 VOTES. Think about how important 1 vote is during the next election. This election is too close to call; provisional ballots are still outstanding. Whoever is declared the victor you can be sure of a recount. FYI: Accomack went to Coleman. Incorrect — he should thank Linda Schultz, chairperson of the Democratic Committee in Northampton. She got the vote out in Nassawadox, Cheriton, and Cape Charles.
