Well Susan you sure hit the outrageous giveaway of the HISTORIC SCHOOL right on the head. We did have five wolves and one sheep on Town Council at the time. You don't seem to understand how badly we needed the community center. There are many reasons it would have helped the town. The library would have had all the room that it needed. After claiming there was no money to repair the school, the town turned right around and bought the bank to use as a library. Now they are crying that there isn't enough space. The town offices could have been in the same building. The police could have used the building too. There still would have been enough room to leave the gym and the stage for events. Now the town wants to spend $600,000 to buy the Rosenwald school, and that building is in horrible shape. Where will the money come from for the repairs? I agree that it is a shame for that building to go to ruin -- but we OWNED the old high school. The only reason that the high school was in bad shape (and according to David McCormack's workers, structurally it was in great shape) was because the town broke their own code and didn't keep up with minor repair work.

The "powers that be" were so excited over the revenue that would come in from the new apartment building. However, Mr. McCormack got the property reassessed so that now the tax revenue is less than on MY HOUSE. Not only that, it is locked in for 10 years. Those five wolves sure got sucked in by those "Men Of Honor," as Edwin Gaskin referred to David McCormack and himself. It was a dirty deal -- and you being a lawyer should know that. You obviously don't know all the facts about this issue. Maybe you are the one that needs to "shut up"!

Mr. Demamp, I agree with the sentiment. Truly I do. Being among the majority supportive of the way in which the town divested itself of the old high school, I find myself tempted to gloat. However, I also fundamentally believe in robust dissent, and the democratic process is weakened without respect for the minority opinion. To quote a provocative champion of free speech, Larry Flynt, "you can't have five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for supper." However, I feel my inner wolf about to pounce when I continue to see personal attacks on hard working civil servants. This insult slinging and name calling is not okay. It is repugnant. To those people, I urge them to engage in civil discourse or shut up.

Bob Panek and his little band of lame duck councilmen, excluding Frank Wendell of course, have nearly destroyed this town, financially, historically, and of course the friendly atmosphere that existed before the Bannon-Natali-Sullivan-Panek fiasco involving the HISTORIC SCHOOL GIVEAWAY. This would be funny if it wasn't sadly the truth. When will Mayor Proto give Bob Panek his walking papers? We have a qualified town manager now and for a town of less than 1,000 people I hardly think we need an assistant town manager. Better get rid of Bob Panek NOW before he corrupts our NEW town manager.

Thank you Mr. Creed for the exciting news of the goings on in Cape Charles. It reminds me that I was correct in not selecting this area for possible retirement. Mr Panek, himself, makes it possible for me not to want to move to this area, goodness knows I could never afford the fees or taxes you all will have due to his lack of due diligence in providing correct and complete costs of projects.
