The Accomack supervisors struggled for years; what to do about garbage? It was all over the place, on the shoulders of the roads, on farmers' fields, all around the green boxes and on the decks by the boxes. I phoned my Supervisor, Donald Hart, and sent him photos of the trash on my road and the pile of garbage at our greenbox. I offered suggestions and nothing was ever done. Photos were taken of people littering and in court the cases were dismissed. I had to climb off my tractor or combine and remove trash, tires and other objects and remove even engine parts from my lawn when a car motor was dumped on my road. I was paying taxes to live in a garbage dump!

Well, our Supervisors are resourceful and now it is illegal to remove garbage from Accomack County. It has become one of our most valuable products. While most areas use tax money to collect and dispose of trash, Accomack has found a way to profit from garbage. They charge a tipping fee and as usual we are paying for the same thing two and three times. I have Davis Disposal and every three months pay a $21 tipping fee, so I pay $84 a year for the landfill which makes me wonder: if we are charged user fees for such as garbage and for a ride in the local ambulance, then what does the county do with our tax dollars?

In December I mailed my county taxes on the 1st and due to a mix up by USPS, to which an official of USPS claimed responsibility, my envelope was postmarked Richmond, Dec. 8, and Dana Bundick charged me a $50.90 penalty for being late. I have protested this and I have sent emails to Hart and Bundick which go unanswered and a letter to the Board of Supervisors is ignored. On the same day I wrote and mailed my check to the county, four days early, I sent the Melfa Fire and Rescue a rather nice donation. Well, if this is how Bundick, Hart and the Supervisors want to play ball I will close my check book to all donations and the county will be the loser.

Communication is supposed to go BOTH ways but it only comes in the form of edicts from the top down and loyalty goes both ways -- and when you get no respect you learn to do the same.
