We are proud to call Andy a personal friend and are pleased to be among his many cheerleaders. In promoting this program, Andy takes a page right from the Competitive Assessment Study, commissioned by the Northampton County Board of Supervisors which had as its target ways for the county to become more "business friendly". The study identified improvements in our local school system and workforce training programs as cornerstones for our economic future, including job creation and growth. Andy's tireless efforts to connect our fantastic Northampton County teachers and school board with willing partners from our diverse community for the benefit of all of our students is laudable for sure.

Kudos to Mr. Teeling. Our school system is indeed ground zero for the future of this county. Without an educated workforce, pretty much everything else is moot. I particularly like the concept of the Job Shadow program. I've always wondered how kids are supposed to know what courses to take and jobs to pursue without ever having been exposed to them. This sounds like an excellent way to give them a taste of the work environment.

Mr. Teeling's vision on the significance of improvement of education in Northampton County and its domino effect on the economy is a move in the right direction. Northampton County's vision of the County requires re-thinking. The County is not the isolated area which many believe it to be; thousands of cars beat the path to Route 13 daily during the summer -- en route to distant locations, and not realizing the gem through which they are passing. Our economic development strategy should be premised on this strategic location, and its proximity to the population centers of the mid-Atlantic and southern resorts. The farmers and watermen of centuries past knew the formula as they could move their products to these markets in less than an day. The same theme should be employed to market the region to clean businesses, looking for a strategic coastal location, adapting the theme to current products/services.

Northampton County High School Alumni Association and its affiliated Foundation, using active alumni, associate members, and former public school teachers and administrators, have worked quietly, diligently and voluntarily to mentor students, and to celebrate their accomplishments for more than 25 years by awarding scholarships to graduating seniors. Other organizations have performed similar work. The work of these organizations will be on display this week at the annual awards ceremony at NHS.

We are pleased to see the entry of other organizations to improve educational quality for our students.
