Mike: You can be sure my husband and I NEVER voted for anyone on Town Council except for Frank Wendell. Don't get us wrong -- we really have nothing against tourism, but it would be nice if the "powers that be" would hook up the new wells and figure out how to give us decent water, instead of worrying ONLY about tourism. I know you were for the school and I thank you for that.

Um, speaking as one of those "tourists," Mr. Bender, I have to tell you it is the historic buildings and character that DRAWS us to CC. YOU all elected the ones tearing down the ACTUAL draw to the area; I am now and always have been in support of using all Government buildings on Mason and within town itself as tourist draws, and it seems that the VOTERS of CC keep on electing folks who want to keep us horrible, free spending, courteous, hungry and thirsty visitors away. Gee, some "tourist" with the same name as me ('tis I indeed) was a LOUD VOCAL proponent of using . . . ready? The Old School as a MuniBuilding/Community center. But hey, it's always easier to blame it on the "other" isn't it? I think that currently the most hated in America is the argh, yuck -- "wealthy."

Speaking of the oversize, over cost sewer, there is a town council meeting tonight [June 1] in Exmore at 7 p.m. where they will address their opposition to the county wasting any more money on this absurd project. The citizens have made their thoughts on this issue very clear at previous meetings in the Cheriton Firehouse and at the Board of Supervisors, but our elected officials don't seem to care how much of your money they waste. Guess it's time to tell them again, in no uncertain terms.

Well Wayne you have again hit the nail on the head. I find it hard to believe that council would spend $50,000 to have the inside of the pump stations & some curbs painted and yet would not preserve the dignity of another historic building (the old library). Well really what else is new? The people running this town don't care about historical buildings. They are all about tourism. The citizens have NO SAY in what is destroyed in the name of progress.

As far as the ticket situation goes I would love to get one because I would fight it as there is no statute on the books. (Unless of course the powers that be go into "closed session" to fix that little problem.)

I will gladly teach the employees how to paint either with a brush or a spray gun FOR FREE. Then the town could save money by having our employees paint instead of hiring outside contractors.

Oh and by the way I recently saw on TV that the town of Portsmouth is $12 million in debt and the citizens (population 95,000) are freaked out. How far in debt is our tiny town now? More than $12 million for sure, and our head in the sand 1,009 citizens aren't at all worried.

The main problem with this town is that it is being run by people that have NO SKILLS. They just hire people to do their labor jobs so they think nothing of spending our taxpayer dollars on work that our town employees should be doing.

When the sewer plant "swallows" its mother I hope it swallows its daddy too ;-) and we all know who the daddy is.

Love your style of reporting. You made my day again!
