James Fraser, Retired Town Employee, 1940-2012

James Fraser, 72, husband of Margaret Hope Jolly Fraser and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Thursday, July 26, at his residence.

He was born May 16, 1940, in Glasgow, Scotland, the son of the late James R. Fraser and the late Alice Nobbs Fraser.

He was a retired wastewater technician for the Town of Cape Charles and was affiliated with the Capeville Masonic Lodge #107.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Heather Nace and her husband, Christopher, of Coral Springs, FL, and Christine Eadeh and her husband, John, of Philadelphia, PA; two sisters, Rae and Janice; and three grandsons, Colin, Ian, and Brendan Nace, all of Coral Springs.

Bernice DeJarnette Wendell, May 10, 1926 – July 11, 2012

Bernice DeJarnette Wendell, 86, wife of the late Francis Edward Wendell, Sr., and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away July 11 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox. A native of Nathalie, VA, located in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Virginia D. DeJarnette. She was corporate secretary for Wendell Distributing Co. and a charter member and former treasurer of the Young Women’s Club of Cape Charles.

Mrs. Wendell is survived by three children, Virginia Wendell Gibson of Ashland, VA, Francis Edward Wendell, Jr., of Cape Charles, and Elizabeth Wendell Harman and her husband, Brian, of Cape Charles; and four grandchildren, Jonathan Gibson, Gregory Harman, Andrew Harman and Katie Wendell. Samuel R. Norman, 1941-2012

Samuel R. Norman, 70, longtime Ashland, New Hampshire, resident, died at home July 8, 2012, following a period of declining health.

He was born Oct. 11, 1941, in Richmond, Va., the son of William S. and Dorothy (Routt) Norman.

He and his family lived in Cape Charles, Va., for many years, coming to Ashland in 1948 when he was 6 years old. He attended Ashland schools, retired in 1976 from the U.S. Air Force, and was a graduate of Plymouth State College.

In 1978 Sam was married to his wife of 33 years, Sherry Fields Norman. [Read more…]

Pauline Louise White Stevens (July 18, 1921 – July 1, 2012)

Pauline Louise White Stevens, 90, passed away Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Wilburn Gardens in Fredericksburg. A native of Cape Charles, she was the daughter of the late Paul Randolph White and the late Louise Townsend White. She lived for many years in Gloucester, and Yorktown, and retired from the Navy Civil Service, Norfolk Naval Base, in 1985 and returned to live in Cape Charles until 2008 when she moved to Fredericksburg.

A graveside service will be held Friday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at the Cape Charles Cemetery with Pastor Elizabeth A. Lutz officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Ida Mae Robbins, 23089 Carr Lane, Cape Charles, VA 23310.
