FRIDAY 1/9: Ron West Describes Ferries of the Eastern Shore

“Gone But Not Forgotten:  Ferries of the Eastern Shore” is a free 90-minute seminar beginning 12:30 p.m. Friday, January 9, at Eastern Shore Community College lecture hall, 29300 Lankford Hwy. in Melfa. Ron West will address the history of the Cape Charles and Kiptopeke car ferry service which started in the 1920s and ended with the opening of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in 1964. West was born and raised on the Shore and worked in education here. The event is sponsored by the Science and Philosophy Seminar of the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

    I had the privilege of attending one of Ron’s lectures a few years ago. He’s an expert on this subject and his presentation is informative and entertaining. Ron West keeps the history of the Eastern Shore alive and well.
