Betty Lou Parks, 92, wife of the late Walter James Parks and a resident of Cheriton, passed away Wednesday, January 2, at her residence.

A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 5, at Cheriton United Methodist Church with Reverends Patricia Money, Jeff Conrow, and Russell Goodrich officiating.

Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite #3, Onancock, VA 23417, or to Cheriton United Methodist Church, c/o Jo Ann Heneghan, P.O. Box 297, Cheriton, VA 23316.

A native of Pungoteague, VA, she was the daughter of the late Norman Doughty Taylor and the late Emily Roache Taylor. She was a retired teller for Bank of America in Cape Charles, VA, 50-year member of Trinity United Methodist Church, member of Cheriton United Methodist Church, longtime member of Young Woman’s Club of Cape Charles and member of Northampton Country Club. Catherine Dunton Doughty, 89, wife of George Nottingham Doughty and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Sunday, December 30, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Reverends Elizabeth A. Lutz and Jack D. Pruitt officiating. A native of Cape Charles, Mrs. Doughty was the daughter of the late Richard Eubank Dunton and the late Florence Lambertson Dunton. She was a retired office manager for Rite Aid Pharmacy in Wilmington, DE, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Northampton Chapter #2, and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Nellie Olivia Lewis Marsh, 85, wife of the late Ernest F. Marsh, Jr. and a resident of Oyster, passed away Sunday, December 23, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, December 27, at Travis Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Money officiating. Interment will follow in Cape Charles Cemetery. A native of Birdsnest, Olivia was the daughter of the late Theodore Lewis and the late Jeanette Carpenter Lewis. She was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a waitress at the America House, Rebecca’s, Henry’s, and Paul’s restaurants, a line worker at Northampton Growers, Avon representative, cafeteria worker at Northampton High School, employee at C & D Seafood, member of Travis Chapel United Methodist Church, and member of United Methodist Women’s Group and served as Treasurer. Elton Merritt Sr., 80, a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Friday, December 21, at his home.

A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m Thursday, December 27, at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father J. Michael Breslin officiating. Interment will follow in Cape Charles Cemetery.

A native of Cape Charles, Mr. Merritt was the son of the late Isaac Lewis Merritt and the late Lillian Hux Merritt. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. He worked on the Cape Charles ferries until they moved. He then went to work for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, and then went to the Police Academy in Virginia Beach, where he graduated in the top of his class. [Read more…]

William Edmund “Jiggs” Dunton, 94, of Exmore, son of the late Ernest Mapp Dunton, Sr., and Maggie Lankford Dunton, passed away Thursday, December 20,  in Nassawadox.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 29, at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore with the Rev. Alex Joyner officiating.
