FRIDAY 3/20: Extreme Living: Microbes Do It Better!
Science and Philosophy Seminar of the Eastern Shore of Virginia has scheduled its next seminar, “Extreme Living: Microbes do it Better!” The free 90-minute seminar will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 20, in the Lecture Hall of the Eastern Shore Community College, 29300 Lankford Hwy., Melfa. Russell Vreeland will describe the organisms that can survive extreme conditions, and how they may have utility to humankind. Vreeland has conducted research in this field for many years.
SATURDAY 3/26: ESO LIVE! On the Road with Pound Net at Little Italy

FRIDAY 4/17: Eastern Shore Literacy Council to Hold ‘Spell Rite’ Contest
It’s time to think Spring, and one of the fun Spring events on the Shore is the Literacy Council’s Spell Rite competition. The annual adult spelling bee will be held at the Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club on Friday, April 17. The social hour and silent auction will start at 5:30 p.m., with dinner and a live auction to follow. After dinner, six teams will compete for the title “Best Adult Spellers of the Eastern Shore.” The competition is tough but it is all good fun and for a great cause – improving literacy skills on the Shore. SATURDAY 3/14: Spay/Neuter and Other Pet Services Offered
A benefactor is paying to have the Virginia Beach SPCA Neuter Scooter visit Cape Charles on Saturday, March 14. It will be parked in the old Meatland parking lot at the entrance to town. Call Sharyl @ 757-331-3037 for an appointment. The SPCA will also offer a vaccine clinic from 11 a.m to noon. Vaccines are $18 each. TUESDAY 3/17: New Date for County Rezoning Information Meeting
The Public Informational Meeting sponsored by Northampton County with regard to the proposed revised Zoning Ordinance and Map has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 17, at Kiptopeke Elementary School Cafeteria from 7-10 p.m. This will provide an informal opportunity for the public to learn about the proposed revised zoning ordinance, to ask questions of staff, and to view the proposed revised zoning map for the County. March 22/23: Libraryhost Authors Read, Discuss Works
Friends of the Cape Charles Memorial Library will host two nationally renowned authors this month. On Sunday, March 22, from 2-4 p.m., author Kate Gray will lead a discussion of her debut novel, Carry the Sky, at the Cape Charles Civic Center, 500 Tazewell Avenue. On Monday, March 23, from 7-9 p.m. at the library on Mason Avenue, Kate Gray will read from Carry the Sky and Sheri Reynolds of Cape Charles will read from The Homespun Wisdom of Myrtle T. Cribb and from her newer, yet to be published book.
Northampton Alumni Association Announces Scholarship Applications
Northampton County High School Alumni Association and its affiliated Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, announce the 26th year of awarding scholarships to graduating seniors in Northampton County and other assistance to students residing in the County. Since 1989, the Association, and later its Foundation, have undertaken the mission of encouraging students to seek post-secondary educational opportunities and to participate in enriching activities during their school years in Northampton.
