Cerebral Palsy Benefit at Sunset Beach Is Great Success

The inaugural Brews, Band, BBQ & Oysters Too! took place on Saturday, October 18 and was a delight to all of the senses. The aroma of spicy-sweet smoked barbecue filled the air. Hoppy beers tickled the taste buds. Even the most reluctant dancers found themselves tapping their feet to the beat of the music. As if by special request the weather was perfect with the sun shining and a coastal breeze blowing. Looking around, smiles adorned the faces of a large crowd coming together to benefit Cerebral Palsy of Virginia – a nonprofit serving children and adults with disabilities on the Eastern Shore and throughout Virginia.

The fun-filled afternoon featured BBQ by Scobby Duck’s Chuck Wagon, brews from Smartmouth Brewery, and music by Audio Sauce. It was hosted and sponsored by The Sunset Beach Inn & Grille, against the backdrop of the beautiful Eastern Shore in Cape Charles. Participating vendors included Eastern Shore Event & Rentals, Cherrystone Aqua Farm, Harbour Graphics, Northampton County Sherriff’s Department, and Moore’s Portable Solution.

The Brews, Band, BBQ and Oysters Too! benefit was hosted to raise awareness for Cerebral Palsy of Virginia, which has experienced tremendous growth in needs for services and never turns anyone away due to inability to pay. “We offer dynamic and quality programs while catering to the needs and goals of each individual, but we rely on community support to expand our programs and include everyone in need of services, regardless of their economic situation,” shares Michelle Majority, Executive Director. “This event is exactly what we’re about – having fun and being a part of our community. We’re excited to have our first event on the Eastern Shore where many folks who attend our programs call home.”

This was a worthwhile cause and a great event. I hope they plan to do this on an annual basis. If you did not attend please do next year. The food, beer, band, and weather could not be better. Like a reduced version of the now defunct Harvest Fest.
