TUESDAY 9/18: Historic District Review Board Hears Hotel Cape Charles Appeal

The Cape Charles Historic District Review Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, at Town Hall to consider a modified application from Hotel Cape Charles. The hotel is requesting approval of the balcony as constructed, which does not conform with the plans originally approved by the Historic District Review Board.

The meeting is open to the public.

I think that the Historic District Review Board should be more flexible. I think that the Hotel Cape Charles is lovely and a nice counterpoint to the more historic look of the rest of the town. I just don’t understand why everything must match historically.

Every visitor I take to Mason comments on the hotel – it is magnificent. The owner/builder’s work in the historic Richmond Fan is futuristic, and a perfect fit with one of the largest Victorian neighborhoods in the U.S. One of my favorite buildings he created recently is a rectangular copper-clad addition on Hanover Avenue in the Fan. So chic, so swank, so very cool. Like our Hotel Cape Charles.
