Vilette Robins Service Thursday

Vilette Elizabeth Travis Robins, 90, the wife of her late husband of 54 years, the Rev. Chester M. Robins Jr., passed away Sunday, August 24, in Greenville, NC, where she had lived the past six years.

A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, August 28, at Cape Charles Cemetery with Rev. Jack D. Pruitt officiating.

Mrs. Robins was born on May 29, 1924, at Arlington Farm, Capeville, the daughter of the late Bryan Travis and the late Elnor Mister Travis. She was raised on the Eastern Shore and graduated from Cape Charles High School. She lived for 84 years in the Delmarva states. On their retirements in 1983 she and her husband returned from Richmond to their hometown, Cape Charles. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Cape Charles. [Read more…]

Robert Moore, 77, Cheriton Native

Master Sgt. Robert Francis Moore, 77, a resident of Virginia Beach,  passed away Monday, August 25, at Norfolk Sentara Heart Hospital. A funeral service will be conducted 12 noon Friday, August 29, at Thalia Lynn Baptist Church, 4392 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, with Rev. Perry Crouch officiating. Interment will follow the service at Capeville Masonic Cemetery in Capeville at 4 p.m. with Pastor Joe West officiating. Family will join friends at the church two hours prior to the service.

Mr. Moore was born September 5, 1936, in Cheriton, the son of the late John Matthew Moore and the late Maggie Elliott Moore. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, and was a member of VFW 3809, American Legion Post #110, Norfolk Moose Lodge #39, Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp #484, and a Navy Tae Kwon Do instructor. Richmond-Area Service Planned for Gary Lee King, 65

Gary Lee King, 65, passed away Friday, August 15, at his Tazewell Avenue residence in Cape Charles. A celebration of life service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, August 24, at Woodlake United Methodist Church, 15640 Chesterfield Dr., Chesterfield, near Richmond.

Mr. King was born September 27, 1948, in Northern Virginia, the son of the late G. Leroy King and the late Amy Brown King. He was a Management Information Systems technician for VCU School of Pharmacy and previously lived in Richmond.

He is survived by his former wife and dedicated companion, Joy Pelletier; two children, Christopher L. King and wife Amy, and Michael J. King, all of California; a brother, William L. King and wife Kathy, of Richmond; two grandchildren, Delaney and Deklan King of California; and his extended family at VCU School of Pharmacy. [Read more…]

Larry Isdell, 59, Cape Charles Waterman

Larry Kent Isdell, 59, husband of the late Robin Jean Foster Isdell and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Monday, August 4, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

A celebration of life service will be conducted 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, at Travis Chapel United Methodist Church in Oyster, with Reverend Janet C. Allen officiating.

Mr. Isdell was born  October 11, 1954, in Oyster, the son of the late Davis Isdell, Jr., and the late Kathleen Brady Isdell. He was a waterman.

He is survived by two daughters, Kelly Isdell Chapman of Cape Charles and Rachel Reeve of Alabama; a brother, Roy Isdell of Cape Charles; and four grandchildren, Kevin Lyons, Cassidy Chapman, C.J. Chapman, and Tyler Reeve. He was predeceased by an uncle, Calvin “Mutt” Brady. [Read more…]

Rintha Broyles, 74, Mother of Cape Charles Resident

Rintha Capps Broyles, 74, wife of the late Clarence N. Broyles, Jr., and a resident of Seaview, passed away at her residence Thursday, August, 7. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, August 15, at Nimmo United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2200 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, with Rev. Elizabeth A. Lutz officiating. Family and friends may call at her late residence 1-2 p.m. Thursday, August 14.

Mrs. Broyles was born April 18, 1940, in Pungo, the daughter of the late Russell Lee Capps and the late Mildred Smith Capps. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ann Eder of Machipongo and Robin Laverne Brownley of Cape Charles; a brother, Raymond Capps, and his wife, Gerri, of North Carolina; and three grandchildren, Christopher Lee Brittingham, Melissia Ann Jones, and Jason Andrew Brittingham. George Russell Moore, 44, Sting-Ray’s General Manager

George Russell Moore, III, 44, husband of Jennifer Thornes Moore and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Monday, June 23, at M.C.V. Hospital in Richmond. A native of Capeville, he was the son of the late George Russell Moore, Jr,. and the late Jean Wyatt Moore. He was the general manager of Sting-Ray’s Restaurant and Cape Center and a member of the Northampton Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister, Sandra Faye Moore of Capeville; mother-in-law, Ethel Parker Thornes of Birdsnest; cousin, Julius Wyatt of Cape Charles, and his loving dog, Lula. [Read more…]

Tuesday Service for Earl Spady, Route 13 Victim

A celebration of life service for Earl Wayne Spady, 56, will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Cape Charles Baptist Church with Pastor Russell Goodrich officiating. Mr. Spady died May 30 after being hit by a truck while crossing Route 13 on foot.

A resident of Cape Charles and a native of Northampton County, he was the son of the late William Howard Spady, Sr., and the late Margaret S. Brady Spady. He is survived by a brother, William Howard Spady, Jr., and his wife, Rosemary, of Miamisburg, OH, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Danny Kaye Spady. He was a member of Cape Charles Baptist Church. [Read more…]

William Smith, 85, Life-Long Cape Charles Resident

William H. Smith, 85, husband of Anne Lambertson Smith, passed away June 3 at his residence. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, at Cape Charles Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Elizabeth A. Lutz and the Rev. Jeff Conrow.

He is survived by Anne, his wife of 53 years; son, Steven D. Smith and his wife Christy Fugate Smith; granddaughter Palmer Elizabeth Smith; grandsons William Wade Smith and Henry Fugate Smith; nephews Russell P. Dunton and his wife Kim, all of Cape Charles; H. Bruce Lambertson and his wife Violet of Eastville; two nieces, Brenda E. Dunton of Cape Charles and Pamela L. Parks of Eastville; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his son, William H. Smith Jr.; his sister, Phyllis S. Dunton; and brother-in-law, H.J. “Herky” Lambertson Jr.

A life-long resident of Cape Charles, Mr. Smith was born May 21, 1929, to the late Harold Charles Smith and Hilda Wilson Smith at their home on Madison Avenue. He was an active Boy Scout and attained the rank of Eagle. Following graduation from Cape Charles High School, he attended Virginia Tech before transferring to Richmond Professional Institute and later entering the United States Marine Corps. After completing training at the U.S. Naval Air Training Command, Pensacola, FL, he was designated a Naval Aviator. He served overseas in Korea and Japan toward the end of the Korean Conflict, retiring from the Marine Corps Reserves in 1966, with the rank of Captain. After his tour of active duty, Mr. Smith resumed his studies at Richmond Professional Institute, where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree.
