Camryn Reese Coffin Loved the Eastern Shore

June 25, 2013

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Camryn Reese Coffin, born June 14, 2005, passed  Saturday, June 22, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Virginia Beach.

A visitation will be held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Francis Asbury Church, 1871 North Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Cape Charles Cemetery.

Reese enjoyed family camping trips on the Eastern Shore, boating, fishing, and many fun days at the beach, playing soccer and attending school.

She loved singing, dancing, playing dress up, cooking, watching Food Network, Barbies, princesses, and anything pink

She started kindergarten at Montessori Academy of Virginia and throughout her sickness was fortunate enough to attend various schools willing to take her in with open arms and even graduated from kindergarten at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

She then surprised her doctors by returning to the Eastern Shore to spend another summer there with her family, brother Rourke, and others who had supported her and the family during her illness, both financially, emotionally and spiritually.

She attended Montessori Children’s House of Franktown for a brief time. Most recently Reese defied the odds yet again and to everyone’s surprise, enrolled in the first grade at Woodstock Elementary School in Virginia Beach, where she proudly rode the bus every day and was Citizen of the Month for her character trait of respect.

Reese was extremely proud of the Eastern Shore and her heritage. Due to the generosity of her Eastern Shore family, Reese was able to live three years rather than the three months originally given her by her medical team. Her family credits the support and prayers of the Eastern Shore community for those years.

Reese is survived by: parents Matt and Melissa Coffin of Virginia Beach; brother Rourke Forrest Coffin; doggie Cole.

Paternal grandparents Allen and Barbara Coffin of Burke; Uncle John and Aunt LoLo Coffin; cousin Bella Coffin; Aunt Debbie Simpson of Lorton.

Maternal grandparent Charles Raymond Forrest of Cheriton; maternal great-grandparents Betty W. Schram of Virginia Beach and Edwina P. Nelson of Onancock; Aunt Ray-Ray Forrest of Virginia Beach; Great Aunt Stephanie Lilliston of Virginia Beach; Uncle Jimmy Forrest of Charlottesville; many cousins and extended relatives on Tangier Island and elsewhere.

Godparents Aunt Angie Clark of Virginia Beach; Aunt Jess Bueno of Virginia Beach; Uncle Adam Lattimore of Machipongo; and Uncle Jeb Johnson of Capeville.

Flowers will be accepted or donations can be made to the Camryn Reese Coffin Trust Fund, payable to Melissa Coffin, c/o Theresa C. Adams, P.O. Box 796, Exmore, VA 23350.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.doughtyfuneralhome.com

Arrangements are by Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore.

What a brave, beautiful little girl. Words can’t describe what a family feels to lose a child. Our deepest sympathies to her brother, parents and grandparents.
