SUNDAY 2/2: Pre-Super Bowl Concert of Baroque Music at Hungars Church

The Orchestra of the Eastern Shore will present a pre-Super Bowl concert of Baroque music at 4 p.m. Sunday, February 2, at Hungars Church on Bayside Road in Bridgetown, near Machipongo.
Stefan Dulcie, organist at Hungars Church and frequent performer on the Shore, will join the orchestra for Handel’s organ concerto “The Cuckoo and The Nightingale.” Flutists Ally Tarwater, music teacher at Broadwater Academy, and local artist Dan Lawrence will be the soloists in Vivaldi’s Concerto in C Major for Two Flutes.

The orchestra’s music director Lee Jordan-Anders, professor of music at Virginia Wesleyan College, will be the soloist in Bach’s Keyboard Concerto in D Minor. The concert concludes with British composer William Boyce’s Symphony in B-flat, “Ode to the New Year,” composed in 1756 while Boyce was serving as Master of the King’s (George II) Music.

The orchestra is grateful to Hungars Church for hosting this concert, and to the United Way of Virginia’s Eastern Shore and Virginia Commission for the Arts for their support. The concert is free and open to the public, but donations are always welcome.

Thanks so much for informing the public about the concert at historic Hungar’s Church! Although last season’s inaugural Concert Series was well-attended, especially by those who live in and around Cape Charles, we hope to see many more people taking advantage of the musical offerings at the church, which has been the beneficiary of a splendid new pipe organ designed especially for the space. The 2014 season is shaping up and will be announced soon, so be ready to mark your calendars!
