FRIDAY 2/14: Celebrate a Love Affair with Puppy Drum

“Puppy Drum on the Eastern Shore” is this week’s topic at the Science and Philosophy Seminar, being held jointly with the Academy for Lifetime Learning, both of the Eastern Shore of Virginia. The seminar begins at 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 14, in the Lecture Hall of the Eastern Shore Community College, 29300 Lankford Hwy., Melfa.

Ken Schultz will discuss juvenile red drum, also known as puppy drum or redfish, which have been abundant on the Eastern Shore for the past two seasons and have provided both excellent fishing and superb eating.

The Seminar will be in two parts: first, a focus on the science (food, habits, and habitat) behind this fish; the second part, from 2-3:30 p.m., is open to all registrants and will focus on tackle and tactics for catching puppy drum, Bayside and Seaside.

Accomack resident Schultz was a longtime editor and staff writer for Field & Stream magazine and is the author of many books on sport-fishing topics. He represents the Eastern Shore on the VMRC’s Recreational Fisheries Fund Advisory Board.
