FRI/SAT: ‘Cinderella’s Glass Slipper’ at Palace Theatre

“Cinderella’s Glass Slipper” will be performed by the participants of Arts Enter’s annual Musical Theatre summer camp at the Historic Palace Theatre in Cape Charles on Friday, June 27, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 28, at 3 p.m. Adults $8, Students $4.

The campers, aged 6-17, have been singing, dancing, learning their lines and enjoying the new friendships they are creating at the theatre. The sold out camp began on June 16 and now the campers will present a full musical with an original set and costumes.

Directed by Clelia Sheppard and Micah Orsetti and assisted by Sunny Trippel and Cathy Barefoot, the group works with the campers on projection, memorization, choreography, stage blocking and set design. “Everyone has a good time. They work hard and can be proud of their final product” said Ms. Sheppard.

The story is familiar. Cinderella works hard in the home of her cruel stepmother. Her silly stepsisters, Brunhilda and Cleopatra, see themselves as beautiful and think the prince will marry them. Of course, the handsome prince spends most of the evening at a palace ball trying to escape from them! The story is ages old, but you’ll meet playful new characters in this fresh adaptation: a brave mouse, a hesitant cat and the amazing Pumpkinhead, who changes into a coach! Our Fairy Godmother has her hands full tutoring an apprentice but still makes time for Cinderella. As we know, she loses her glass slipper as she tries to run out before the clock strikes midnight. As the ladies of the kingdom try to fit into the crystal shoe, the prince finally finds the girl he is to marry. This well-known classic is filled with songs that create their own magic!
