June Is Adopt-A-Cat Month at Eastern Shore SPCA

June is Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month, and the SPCA Eastern Shore in Onley is celebrating our feline friends by offering a reduced adoption fee for adult cats.

To join in the celebration, just stop by the shelter at 26528 Lankford Highway and visit the cats to find the one who would make the “purr-fect” addition to your family. Adopters will be required to fill out an adoption form and, if approved, will be able to take home the cat of their choice for just $25.

Sadly, shelter adopters often go straight for the kittens and overlook the adult cats. This is a real loss both for the cats and the potential adoptive family. An adult cat may not provide the non-stop entertainment that a kitten does, but many adults are still playful—just not at the manic activity level of a kitten.

In addition, there is less room for the unexpected with an adult cat. After you spend some time at the shelter visiting with it and speaking with the shelter staff, you will have an accurate idea of the cat’s temperament and physical characteristics such as mature size and coat. Cats at SPCA Eastern Shore are housed in communal rooms rather than cages, so they are used to being around other cats. When you visit with a cat that you are interested in, you will also see how it interacts with other kitties.

Because they are less rambunctious than kittens, adult cats are often a better choice for seniors or for families with small children. Yet, their independence also makes them a good fit for busy, employed, or active people who are not home during the day. And they are less mischievous than kittens, so you do not need to “kitten-proof” your home if you adopt an adult cat.

All of the adult kitties at SPCA Eastern Shore have already been spayed or neutered, are up-to-date with a rabies shot and vaccines, and are litter box trained. In addition, your new pet will be microchipped and the chip registered permanently in your name. You will never have to pay a renewal fee to keep the registration activated.

This special promotion ends at the end of the month, so don’t miss your chance to take advantage of it and get a priceless addition to your family for a minimal price. Call the SPCA at 757-787-7385 if you have any questions.SPCA Eastern Shore is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter. The shelter is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
