Memorial Service Monday for William ‘Pat’ Dunton, 60

William Patrick Dunton, better known as Pat, 60,  passed away Thursday, April 11, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond.

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 15, at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home in Cape Charles with the Rev. Elizabeth Lutz officiating. A private interment will be held in Cape Charles Cemetery.

Mr. Dunton was a Richmond resident formerly of Seaview. He was the son of the late William Richard Dunton and the late Virginia Travis Dunton and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include an aunt, Betty L. Travis of Painter; an uncle, George N. Doughty of Cape Charles; and numerous cousins.

Memorial Service at Town Harbor for Captain of C.C. Rider

Gary Richard Trew, 54, husband of Diane Patrice Trew, passed away suddenly at Cape Charles Harbor aboard the C.C. Rider on Sunday, April 7.

A memorial service will be held dockside at the Town Harbor 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Afterwards the family will take his ashes out to sea and then meet later at the Shanty restaurant.

Mr. Trew was a resident of Benson, MN, but spent some of his retirement in Cape Charles as Captain of the C.C. Rider.

Born October 22, 1958, in Flint, MI, he was the son of the late Burley William Trew and Eeva Heinonen Trew. [Read more…]

A graveside service for Bryan Keith Elliott, 35, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at Cape Charles Cemetery with the Rev. Randy E. Lewis officiating.

Mr. Elliott was a native of Cape Charles, and until last week lived in the Madison Avenue trailer park. He had just relocated to a house on Seaside Road near Cheriton.

On Sunday he was found dead from a gunshot wound at his new residence.

(UPDATE: On April 3, authorities arrested a suspect, Gary Coble of Cape Charles, and charged him with first-degree murder.)

Bryan Elliott was the son of John Elliott, Jr,. and his wife, Valerie, of Cape Charles and the late Essie Mae Brady Elliott. He was a waterman.

In addition to his father and stepmother, he is survived by two sons, Ben and Anakin; a sister, Elizabeth Elliott Charnock and her husband, Raymond, of Tangier; three brothers, John Elliott III and his wife, Tricia, of Capeville, Chris Elliott of Cape Charles, Derrick Elliott of Eastville; two stepsisters, Chelsea and Heather, and numerous nieces and nephews. E.W. ‘Zoot’ Richardson, Bridge-Tunnel Police Officer 40 Years

Edward Wilton “Zoot” Richardson, 81, husband of Audrey C. Richardson and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Monday, March 25, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 29, at the Capeville Masonic Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Conrow officiating.

A native of Capeville, Mr. Richardson was the son of the late Wilton Richardson and Marymerle Custis Richardson. He retired after 40 years of service as a police officer with the Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel and was a member of Lower Northampton Baptist Church. [Read more…]

Charles Grant Broderick, 76, husband of Claire Jennings Broderick and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Tuesday, March 19, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

A Requiem Mass of the Resurrection will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father J. Michael Breslin officiating.

A native of Twin Falls, ID, Mr. Broderick was the son of the late James Broderick and the late Lucille Johns Broderick. He was the retired owner of Geary Safety Center in San Francisco, CA. [Read more…]

Catherine Kellam, 93, Caterer and Cookbook Author

Catherine Lavinia Kellam, 93, wife of the late William Matthews Kellam, Sr., and a resident of Cheriton, passed away Tuesday, March 5, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Cheriton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Patricia Money officiating. Interment will follow in Cape Charles Cemetery.

A native of Exmore, Mrs. Kellam was the daughter of the late Harry Rosser Kellam and the late Ida Lois Killmon Kellam. She was a member of Cheriton United Methodist Church, member and past Worthy Matron of Northampton Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star, and will be remembered for the many weddings she catered and as author of a local cookbook, Kitty Caters. Mary Belle Crockett, 82, wife of the late John Pardy Crockett and a resident of Cedar Grove, passed away Sunday, February 24, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox.

She was Harbor Master for the Town of Cape Charles for 30 years.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, at Lower Northampton Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Conrow officiating. Interment will follow in the Cape Charles Cemetery. Family will join friends at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7 to 8:30.

Phyllis Jean Costin, 84, wife of E. A. “Sonny” Costin and a resident of Eastville, passed away Monday, February 18, at her residence.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, February 21, at Lower Northampton Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Conrow and Rev. Dr. John Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in Capeville Masonic Cemetery.

Family will join friends at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home in Cape Charles on Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30.

A native of Cashville, Mrs. Costin was the daughter of the late Robert S. Young and the late Nell Byrd Brown Young. She was a member of Lower Northampton Baptist Church, Mission Support Chairman of W.M.U., and past president of Capeville Pocahontas. [Read more…]
