Bertie ‘Buck’ Abbott, 88, Retired Bridge Tunnel Policeman

Bertie “Buck” Abbott, Jr., 88, husband of Thelma Lewis Abbott and a resident of Cheriton, passed away Friday, August 16, at his residence.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 20, at Cheriton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Money officiating. Interment will follow in Cape Charles Cemetery with Masonic Rites. Family will join friends at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home 6-7:30 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Abbott was born March 16, 1925, in Townsend, the son of the late Bertie O. Abbott, Sr., and the late Manie Costin Abbott. He was a retired Sargent for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Police, member of Cheriton United Methodist Church, Cheriton Volunteer Fire Company and Capeville Masonic Lodge #107 AF & AM. Malvina Hancock Savage, 84, D.A.R. Member

Malvina Hancock Savage, 84, wife of James Thomas Savage and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Wednesday, August 14, at her residence.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Holmes Presbyterian Church, P.O. 258, Cheriton, Va. 23316 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite #3, Onancock, Va. 23417.

A native of Morganfield, Ky., Mrs. Savage was the daughter of the late Aaron Clements Hancock and the late Elizabeth Davis Hancock. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, the Garden Club of the Eastern Shore of Virginia, and Holmes Presbyterian Church. [Read more…]

DOLORES A. PFUND

Dolores A. Pfund, 81, wife of Robert H. Pfund and a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Thursday, August 8, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

A private funeral mass for family and friends will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 16, at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father J. Michael Breslin officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Randy Custis Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 237, Nassawadox, VA 23413.

Mrs. Pfund was a native of Bronx, NY, and was the daughter of the late Thomas Byrne and the late Florence Feeney Byrne. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Robert T. Pfund, James J. Pfund and his wife Julie, William J. Pfund and his wife Teresa, Mary E. Krafft and her husband Chris, Cathryn A. Doughty and her husband David,  a brother, Thomas J. Byrne and his wife Carolann, and six grandchildren.

Thomas Willett Booker, 79, husband of Barbara A. Booker and a resident of Seaford, DE, passed away Thursday, August 8, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, at Cape Charles Cemetery with the Rev. Jack D. Pruitt officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Mr. Booker was a native of Cherrystone and was the son of the late Charles M. Booker, Sr,. and the late Grace Brown Booker. He was a retired conductor for Conrail Railroad. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael T. Booker of Port Orange FL, a brother, Grayson S. Booker and his wife Joyce of Capeville, a step-son, Robert Reese Wilkins, Sr,. and his wife Terry of Seaford, a step-daughter, Brenda Wilkins Baker and her husband Victor of Gumboro, DE, five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Williams Booker, and three brothers, Charles M. Booker, Jr., Robert C. Booker, and John E. Booker.

Michael Lucier, 68, ‘Lived the Dream’

Cape Charles resident Michael F. Lucier, 68, died July 30 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family after courageously fighting a short, aggressive battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, at St. Charles Catholic Church. A reception will follow.

Mr. Lucier was born in Milford, MA, the son of the late Edward J. and Helen G. (Kerns) Lucier. He attended the former St. Mary’s Grammar School and graduated from the former St. Mary’s High School in 1962. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1966 and was a resident of Virginia for the past 45 years. [Read more…]

Lynwood (Lyn) LeCato Drummond, III, 40, husband of Sarah E. Drummond, passed away Monday, August 5, at his residence in Cape Charles.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, at Cape Charles Cemetery with Mr. Barry Downing officiating.

A native of Cheriton, Mr. Drummond was the son of the late Lynwood L. Drummond, Jr., and the late Katie Parks Drummond. He was self-employed as a house painter and tattoo artist and was baptized at Cheriton Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Kailynn Elizabeth Drummond of Cape Charles; two sisters, Vicki Wise and her husband, Pat, of Eastville, Bonnie Lynn Marshall and her husband, Raymond, of Cheriton; two brothers-in-law, Dan Brown and his wife, Lauren, Garry Brown; one sister-in-law, Laurie Klingel and her husband, Jeff; one uncle, George Drummond and his companion, Betty Badger, of Machipongo; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Garry Brown of Eastville; nieces and nephews, Courtney Wise, Sam Marshall, Zach Marshall, Barbara Marshall, Bonnie Marshall, Jason Marshall, Forrest Marshall, Alex Brown, Molly Brown, Katie Brown, Halsey Klingel, and great-niece, Madison Wagner. Camryn Reese Coffin Loved the Eastern Shore

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Camryn Reese Coffin, born June 14, 2005, passed  Saturday, June 22, surrounded by family and friends at her home in Virginia Beach.

A visitation will be held 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29, at Francis Asbury Church, 1871 North Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach. A viewing will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Cape Charles Cemetery.

Reese enjoyed family camping trips on the Eastern Shore, boating, fishing, and many fun days at the beach, playing soccer and attending school. [Read more…]

Edith Mae Bailey Mitchell, 98, wife of the late Willis E. Mitchell, passed away peacefully in her home in Cape Charles Tuesday, April 9.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. Stephen’s AME Church, 511 Jefferson Avenue, Cape Charles.

Mrs. Mitchell was born April 2,1915, in Bayview, and was the daughter of the late Albert Terry and Emma Terry.

She was a resident of Cape Charles, and in her earlier years was a domestic worker, but spent most  her life as a homemaker, raising seven children. [Read more…]
