ESO Fall Art Classes Beginning for Young and Old

Fall is upon us and Mother Nature’s got her paint brush ready. But why should she have all the fun?   Youth and adults have their pick of painting and art classes at ESO Arts Center in Belle Haven.

One Day Master Landscape Painting on Saturday, September 28, from 9 a.m. to  3 p.m. is an oil painting class with exciting new ESO instructor Anna Page Joseph.  Students will learn the foundations for setting up a successful plein air landscape painting through the study of masterworks. Class begins with a one hour lecture at ESO and continues at an outdoor location. Painting surfaces provided and a supply list is available online at masterlpc.tumblr.com. Bring lunch and a hat. Rain date is Sunday, September 29. Cost $100.

Joseph, a native of ruralKing George, Virginia,  graduated from The Maryland Institute College of Art and pursues her career as a plein air painter, feeling most at home in the landscape. THELMA PETERSON

Beginning Watercolor with renowned Shore artist Thelma Peterson is held on Saturdays beginning Sept. 28 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The class covers working with watercolors from pigments, brushes, watercolor papers, composition and perspective, to techniques of handling the watercolor medium. Supply list at ESO. Cost is $270 for 6 weeks.

Immediate Watercolor with Thelma Peterson is held on Saturdays starting Sept. 28 from 12 -2 p.m. Broaden your skills and techniques in handling watercolor medium and build on the foundation of composition, perspective while focusing on a variety of techniques to handle wider and more in-depth range of subjects in your work. Supply list at ESO. Cost is  $270 for 6 weeks.

After-School Art for two age groups is taught by Anna Page Joseph. It is an experimental, playful, and creative class that nourishes intuition and subconscious decision-making through drawing as well as basic drawing tools for a full range of expression. It’s a creative journey and technical foundation for works on paper with all materials provided.

Classes for Ages 6 to 10 are Wednesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. with Session 1 running Sept. 25 to Oct. 30 and Session 2 from Nov. 6 to Dec. 11. Cost per session is $100.

Classes for Ages 11 to 16 are Fridays from 4 to 5 p.m. with Session 1 running Sept. 27 to Nov. 1 and Session 2 from Nov. 8 to Dec. 13. Cost per session $100.

One Day Watercolor Workshops for all levels are taught by award-winning Shore artist Diana M. Davis. Workshops are on Thursdays, 10 a.m. -I p.m. Cost $80. Bring your own supplies, the material list is at ESO, or purchase them from the instructor for an addition $10. Painting subjects and dates are listed below.

Hummingbirds & Trumpet Vine on Sept 26 will teach students to learn to draw and paint hummingbirds & flowering vine, covering composition, use of paint, including mixing/using iridescent watercolor, shadows, value and more.

Sunflowers on Oct. 17 will teach students to learn to draw and paint sunflowers, mixing watercolor paints, composition, textures and more. It’s a fun fall class where you create your own original watercolor.

Fall Landscape is Nov. 14. Learn to draw a fall landscape, paint a lovely sky, trees in background/foreground, composition and water — a Shore landscape all your own.

Poinsettias is Dec. 12. Discover how to draw and paint a gorgeous poinsettia in time for the holidays. Learn to use watercolors, mix them, and use contrast and composition.
