Georgianna Moore Pearson, 81, a resident of Cheriton, passed away Sunday, January 5, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, January 11, at Capeville Masonic Cemetery with Reverend Randy Lewis officiating. Family will join friends at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home in Cape Charles that morning from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

A native of Seaford Farm, Eastville Station, she was born August 10, 1932, the daughter of the late Curtis Moore and the late Gladys Moore. Mrs. Pearson was retired from Northampton County Public Schools Cafeteria. [Read more…]

Raymond Salopek, 72, Bay Creek Resident

Raymond Salopek, 72, husband of Sandra Salopek and a Bay Creek resident of Cape Charles, passed away Thursday, January 2, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21803-0163.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Noelle Lawrence and her husband, Peter, also of Bay Creek, and Nadine M. Malpase and her husband, Stuart, of Charlotte, NC; and a granddaughter, Margaret Ann Malpass of Richmond. [Read more…]

Anthony ‘Poot’ McHan, 21, Route 13 Victim

Anthony “Poot” McHan, 21, was driving north on Route 13 in the direction of Cape Charles Tuesday afternoon (December 17) when he lost control of his 2001 Toyota Tundra pickup. According to reports, the truck ran off the road near Capeville and flipped several times, ejecting McHan, who reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt. He died at the scene. Virginia State Police said that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.

McHan worked for Luke Kellam Construction and was involved in building the large home nearing completion in the Bay Creek South subdivision of Plantation Pointe.

A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, at Belle Haven Cemetery with Reverend Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Family will join friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, December 20, at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore. [Read more…]

Wednesday Service for Frances Parks, 85

Frances Christine Parks, 85, wife of the late Thomas Smith Parks, Jr., and a resident of Cheriton, passed away Friday, November 29, at Sentera Norfolk General Hospital.

A celebration of life service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, at Cape Charles Baptist Church with Reverend Russell Goodrich officiating.

A native of Franktown, she was the daughter of the late John Showard and the late Lottie B. Travis Showard.

She is survived by three daughters, Jo Ann Edmondson and her husband, Bill, of Cape Charles, Sandra Parker and her friend, Bill Powell, of Cape Charles, Ann Walker of Cheriton; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, William Thomas Parks, and son-in-law, Doug Walker. The family wants to make a special thanks to Dominic Horner. [Read more…]

Graveside Service Saturday for Irene Carpenter, 85

Irene Carpenter, 85, a resident of Machipongo,  passed away Tuesday, October 15, at her home where she had been cared for since suffering a stroke in 2008.

A visitation will be held 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, October 18, at Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home in Cape Charles. Interment will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 19, at Cape Charles Cemetery with Pastor Russell Goodrich officiating.

Mrs. Carpenter was born December 22, 1927, in Chemnitz, Germany, to Oskar and Walli Post Roschar. She became a beautician and was working in Landshut, Germany, where she met soldier Alvin Thomas Carpenter, Sr., when he came in on Thanksgiving Day 1950 to get a haircut. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary August 14, 2013. [Read more…]

Rubye Knight Rew, 94, a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Sunday, October 13. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, at Cape Charles Cemetery with Pastor Russell Goodrich officiating.

Born April 27, 1919, in Richmond, Mrs. Rew was the daughter of the late Bertha and Estell Knight. She grew up on the Eastern Shore and was married to the late Alva James Wimbrow, and after his untimely death, she married the late S. Farring Rew. They were married for 50 years.

Mrs. Rew was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was active until her health prevented her from attending. She was a past president of Faithful Workers Class, a 60-year member and past Worthy Matron of Northampton Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Eastern Shore Woman’s Club, serving as Chaplain for many years. Edward J. “Ned” Doughty, III, passed away at his Norfolk home Tuesday, October 1, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A graveside ceremony will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, October 5, at Cape Charles Cemetery.
