Michael Lucier, 68, ‘Lived the Dream’

August 8, 2013

Cape Charles resident Michael F. Lucier, 68, died July 30 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family after courageously fighting a short, aggressive battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, at St. Charles Catholic Church. A reception will follow.

Mr. Lucier was born in Milford, MA, the son of the late Edward J. and Helen G. (Kerns) Lucier. He attended the former St. Mary’s Grammar School and graduated from the former St. Mary’s High School in 1962. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Virginia Tech in 1966 and was a resident of Virginia for the past 45 years.

After working for General Electric for 27 years, Mr. Lucier retired in 2005. He was president of the Rotary Club of James City County 2003-2004 and later was secretary of the Cape Charles Rotary Club. He was also a 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus. But his real pride and joy was his family, including his wife of 39 years, two children, and two grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his golf buddies and could be found on the links most Wednesdays and Fridays. If he was not on the course, he and his wife were likely to be on an adventure to somewhere spectacular like New Zealand, Italy, or Ireland. Travel became an annual ritual, and he had as much fun planning a trip as taking it. He was, as he often proclaimed, “living the dream.”

Mr. Lucier is survived by his wife Jeanette (Rooney) Lucier, son Michael L. Lucier and wife Kimberly Blanton Lucier of Charlotte, NC; daughter Amie M. Hows and husband Melton Paul Hows of Houston, TX; and grandchildren Tyson and Avery Lucier of Charlotte, NC, as well as seven sisters and four brothers: Sister Theresa Lucier, S.P., of Milford, MA, Marie Geraghty Campbell of Franklin, MA, Anne Connoni of Holliston, MA, Regina Langevin of Manomet, MA, Margaret Sullivan of Franklin, MA, Bernadette Lucier of Santa Monica, CA, Alice Scano of Hopedale, MA, Emery Lucier of Milford, MA, Joseph Lucier of Grover Beach, CA, Peter Lucier of Grover Beach, CA, and Paul Lucier of Sanford, ME; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mr. Lucier was the brother of the late Edward J. Lucier, Jr., the late Marie A. Lucier and the late Helen L. Ford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Charles Building Fund, 545 Randolph Ave, Cape Charles, VA 23310.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.doughtyfuneralhome.com.

Arrangements are by Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home, Cape Charles.
