SATURDAY 11/16: ‘Swine & Wine’ Boys and Girls Club Benefit

One of the coolest events of the year will be taking place Saturday, November 16, when the Boys and Girls Club of the Eastern Shore will hold its sixth annual Swine and Wine event at Central Green in Painter.

Swine and Wine will feature roast pig and chicken plus Chatham wine and the incredible music of Mr. B and the Boys. It is held at the gymnasium at Central High School that is transformed for this evening into a venue that had attendees last year marveling at the work of a hard-working decorating committee. The building is donated for the fundraiser by Tucker Robbins, owner of Central Green and maker of unique furniture.

Swine and Wine is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Boys and Girls Club, Eastern Shore Unit. The club has approximately 200 members with over 90 percent of the membership qualifying for free or reduced meals at schools and 55 percent coming from single parent homes. Last year the club served over 24,000 meals at programs that are conducted after school from 3 to 8 PM and all day during the summer.

The mission focus of the club is for club members to achieve academic success, develop good character and citizenship and maintain healthy lifestyles. The club boasts some amazing success stories of members being the first in their family to attend college or even to graduate from high school in some cases.

Sponsorships are available for Swine and Wine that will help the club meets its mission. A $1,000 Platinum Sponsor includes eight tickets to the event. A $500 Gold Sponsor receives four tickets. A $250 Silver Sponsor receives two tickets. There is also the $150 Angel Donation.

Tickets to the event are $40 in advance and $45 at the door. There is also a special price for young adults of $30 for 30 and under. For information on sponsorships or to purchase tickets, call Mary Harris at 757-442-3379, ext. 113. Tickets can also be obtained at the Book Bin, Rayfield’s in Nassawadox and the Machipongo Trading Co.
