FRIDAY 2/15: Seminar on Frank Benson, American Artist

The next Science and Philosophy Seminar of the Eastern Shore of Virginia is “Frank W. Benson:  American Artist,” 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 15, in the Eastern Shore Community College lecture hall, 29300 Lankford Hwy, Melfa.

Jack Ordeman will discuss the art of Benson, including his etchings and drypoint works, and how he came to be regarded as the founder of the American Sporting genre.

Ordeman is retired on the Shore.  He has written books about and curated exhibitions of Benson’s work, including a concurrent exhibition at the Barrier Island Center in Machipongo.

The Science and Philosophy Seminar meets regularly to explore topics ranging from philosophical speculation to scientific research. All seminars are free and open to the public.
