In reference to the “Public Beach” sign at the entrance to Cape Charles, I do believe that it brings people to our beach, but only to our beach. They bring their coolers with food and drink and stay on the beach during their visit to our town. They don’t support any of the businesses in town.
I believe we need to come up with a plan to charge out-of-towners a parking fee to use our beach. It is done elsewhere with good success. I don’t think any of our visitors will balk at paying a parking fee of $5.00 per vehicle to use our beautiful beach and pier and the town would benefit greatly.
